Do You Use Facial Oils?
I know the last thing you probably would want in your facial routine is a face oil but you may be missing out on the benefits of these oils.
The science behind face oil is basically oils help your moisture products to work effectively whilst at the same time not blocking or clogging your pores. In addition, they protect your skin against anything that affects the moisture in your skin. The result? A wrinkle free skin or at least slow down the aging process.
When you apply a moisturizer, the oil traps or seals in the moisture! That's the work of an emoliant, right? Emollients and Occlusives are equally important in skin care just as in hair care. When there is no moisture loss, your skin stays hydrated and plump too. Butters, oils, esters, lipids, and fatty acids are all considered Emollients. Eg sheabutter, mineral oil.
There are a variety of oils that can be used during the day and night. One of the oils I've used at night is rosehip oil. This contains vitamin A (like retinol) and is therefore suitable for wrinkles.
There are a lot of oils to choose but do read about them first before purchasing.
*Chia seed
*Argan oil
*Marula oil
*Coconut oil
*Grape seed oil
*Carrot oil
*Squalane
Oils for Your Skin Type
The oils are also meant for different skin types and issues. Jojoba is recommended for oily skin whereas coconut oil may be good for dry skin. Before you jump on any oil, remember that the season affects your skin. You may have extreme dryness during harmattan season hence you look out for oils that can provide maximum protection from moisture loss. Butters in this season may be better than oils. You may need to play around with these oils to find what works for you.
One way to find the oil most suitable for your skin is to look out for non comedogenic ability.
Non comedogenic and Comedogenic
When you know the comedogenic number, it's easier to choose. Non comedogenic means the substance does not blog or clog pores. Comedogenic oils can lead to blackheads and whiteheads.
Hope this was helpful. See the next post for examples of comedogenic and non comedogenic oils.
